The most photographed bridge ...

Posted by Vinman (Essex, United Kingdom) on 26 January 2012 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

This is Ashness Bridge, or "the most photographed bridge in the Lake District". This is true as it is very hard to get a picture that either is different from anyone else or does not have a coachload of tourists hanging around.

I was lucky in that I went fairly late in the season and late in the afternoon so it was not too crowded and there was some nice late afternoon sunshine. There were 4 people in the picture originally, two were cloned out but the other two I left for purposes of scale.

The traditional view is from the other side of the bridge looking down to Keswick and the lake but I wanted to pick up some of that late sun, which is not that common in the area. In fact it rained non-stop for the other 6 days I was there.

Processing was a touch of Topaz Detail to bring out the texture in the rocks and then some dodging and burning here and there to increase contrast.

Great work with the cloning brush, no sign that they were ever there at all :-)
